Seniors Week promises fashion, film and funThe program for this year’s annual Seniors Week festival (2 to 9 October) is packed with music and film, sport and leisure activities and arts and craft. There’s something for everyone and all events are taking place in Latrobe City.
By Portal Admin - 16th September 2016 - Back to News Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Michael Rossiter, said the Latrobe City Senior of the Year would be announced at the Country Concert.
"This year, the Country Concert features Athol Guy, an original member of The Seekers, in ‘The Seekers Story’. It’s a tribute to Australia’s own super group and tells the history of the group over the past 50 years. We will be presenting the winner of the Latrobe City Senior of the Year award at 10.30am, just before the show starts. It’s an exciting moment in the festivities.
"Other highlights for the week include an Op Shop Tour around Latrobe City, come and try days for tennis and croquet, a fishing competition at Lake Hyland, a screening of Mao’s Last Dancer at the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre, a Salvation Army fashion parade, bingo, cards, arts and crafts and much more," Cr Rossiter said.
"Many of the activities are free or low cost and transport is provided for some activities. Book early to make sure you can take part in your favourite activity. See our website for more details or call 1300 367 700.
"Seniors Week is a celebration of active living and we’re pleased to be able to support that aim, here in Latrobe City," Cr Rossiter concluded.
Throughout the week, public transport will be free - on local and metropolitan services – for Victorian Senior Card holders.
