Council and Rosedale community win $250,000 funding for new pre-school

Wellington Shire Council, with strong support from local community groups, has won $250,000 from the State Government for a much-needed pre-school in Rosedale – to be part of a new $2.3 million multi-purpose community centre serving the town.

This welcome funding from the Department of Human Services adds to $20,000 raised by the local community itself over several years, and some $320,000 from the Council, for a pre-school provision which will incorporate multi-use children’s services. It means that for the first time the community of Rosedale will be able to benefit from pre-school and neighbourhood house children’s services under one roof – providing much more convenient access to a broader range of children’s support services.

It is expected that construction work on the multi-purpose community centre itself, to be located in Cansick Street on the Edward Crooke Reserve site, will start during this financial year. Plans for the building also include provision for a library, a neighbourhood house, community health services, along with facilities for local senior citizens and other community groups.

Said Wellington’s Mayor John Jago: "This funding announcement is great news for the Shire and the people of Rosedale, and owes a great deal to the commitment and hard work put in by the local community itself.

"The much-needed new pre-school and community centre will be a focal point for local residents and our priority now is get the project started on the ground as soon as we can."
