By news@gippsland - 13th October 2026 - Back to News Netball at Agnes Brereton Reserve in Traralgon has a bright future thanks to new court lighting - made possible by the Carroll Labor Government. Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing joined representatives from Latrobe City Council, the Traralgon Netball Association, and Netball Victoria to officially launch the lighting made possible by an investment of $220,000 from the Country Football and Netball Program.
New 200-lux LED lights across 10 courts will extend playing hours, support development programs and night games, boosting Traralgon netball Upgraded netball court lightingUp until recently, the more than 60 teams that play in the Traralgon Netball Association twilight competition were limited in their ability to train and compete due to poor lighting. Works at the Reserve have installed new 200 lux LED lights across all of the 10 netball courts at the venue giving players, from the under nine juniors to seniors more time on the courts to perfect their game. The new lights will also help the Association expand development programs and host more night games, providing a real boost for the local game. Developed in partnership with AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria, the Country Football and Netball Program has now invested more than $44 million across 600 country football and netball infrastructure projects since 2005. It's part of the more than $2.4 billion the Victorian government has kicked into community sport and active recreation infrastructure since 2014. The Victorian Budget 2026/27 is providing $24 million to support the development of high-quality, accessible community sports infrastructure across the state. Enhanced facility lightingHarriet Shing MP acknowledged the Latrobe City Council for its management of the project, and the Traralgon Netball Association for its more than $136,000 contribution and support of the project. For more information about infrastructure grant opportunities available visit Sport and Recreation Victoria website. Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said, "Improving the lighting at parks and sporting facilities makes a big difference - clubs like the Traralgon Netball Association can spend more time on court and more players, volunteers and supporters can get active and stay connected. Sport is a huge part of our communities across the region, and new and improved lighting is providing more opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to join in."
