Harriet Shing MP: $436,839 Awarded to West Gippsland and the Latrobe Valley to Boost Safety and Employment31 projects sharing in more than $5.6 million in funding under the 2020-21 Community Safety Infrastructure Grants By Portal Admin - 8th November 2020 - Back to News The Andrews Labor Government has awarded $436,839 to councils and organisations across West Gippsland and the Latrobe Valley to improve community safety and provide an economic boost to local workers affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing today announced the projects funded from the Community Safety Infrastructure Grants, which include:
- $60,000 to Latrobe City Council to deliver the Moe Public Safety Lighting Project, which includes Installation of lighting at Apex Park in Moe to improve perceptions of safety and encourage greater use.
- $376,839 to Baw Baw Shire Council to deliver Community Safety Improvements in Drouin, Warragul, Trafalgar, Rokeby, Rawson and Longwarry. This includes Installation of CCTV, lighting, fencing and bollards to improve public safety and security.
These are some of the 31 projects sharing in more than $5.6 million in funding under the 2020-21 Community Safety Infrastructure Grants, as part of the government’s $2.7 billion Building Works package.
The Community Safety Infrastructure Grants program provides up to $500,000 for projects that upgrade to public safety and security.
Projects will commence as soon as it is safe to do so, and where possible will engage employees through the Working for Victoria program, which prioritises employment for Victorians impacted by the pandemic.
The grants are part of the Victorian Government’s Community Crime Prevention Program which helps prevent crime and keep Victorian communities safe.
