Works commence this week on a $4.9 million upgrade to Copelands Road to improve traffic flow, capacity and safety for both vehicles and pedestrians in the growing area. Key upgrade works will target the area between Mills Road and Lillico Road to improve road surface, upgrade the underground stormwater drainage at the Moe River crossing, and build new footpaths and a shared bicycle path.

Improving local infrastructure

Baw Baw Shire Council CEO Mark Dupe was pleased to see works begin on this highly anticipated road project that would future-proof drainage, traffic and pedestrian needs in the area. "It's great to see works underway on this important road and drainage project. Not only will it improve traffic and pedestrian flow and safety, it will also ensure vital drainage infrastructure to support the growth of nearby housing developments."

"Copelands Road is a key arterial for local traffic coming to and from the highway, town centre, schools and local business Flavorite, who is supportive of the project. These works will ensure the road has capacity to service our growing community for decades to come. We will keep local residents and businesses informed as the project progresses and appreciate the community's patience, understanding and cooperation during these essential works," said Mr Dupe.

Traffic management will be in place throughout the duration of works and measures will be put in place to minimise disruptions where possible. During construction hours, Copelands Road will operate with one-way traffic, with traffic controllers onsite to assist with safe traffic flow. Outside of construction hours, two-way traffic will be reinstated.

Local business Ace Earthmoving has been awarded the contract for works, who will work closely with council to deliver the project due for completion in 2025. This project is being jointly funded by Baw Baw Shire Council and Development Contributions Plan (DCP) as part of the overall Warragul Precinct Structure Plan.
