Active Bass CoastActive Bass Coast Plan, a ten year Plan that sets the scene for healthy and active environments and services into the future. By Portal Admin - 21st October 2018 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council recently adopted the Active Bass Coast Plan, a ten year Plan which sets the scene for healthy and active environments and services into the future.
The Plan provides strategic direction for the delivery of open space and recreations projects, along with short, medium and long term goals. Objectives of the Plan include developing a diverse network of recreation facilities and open spaces and recommending location specific actions for improving open space and recreation facilities.
Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Pamela Rothfield explained that there are three key themes identified in the Plan: Active People, Active Places and Active Partnerships.
"Active People identifies the need to increase participation and the provision of diverse opportunities in order to achieve this," Cr Rothfield said.
"Active Places refers to diverse settings and capitalising on our beautiful natural environment.
"The third theme, Active Partnerships, acknowledges that in order to achieve our healthy and active objectives, we must engage with and support groups and organisations, and work with stakeholders and decision makers to attract funding opportunities. "
"Through these themes, the Plan outlines how we will continue to improve the way we encourage and motivate our community to participate in sports, socialise, play and relax in our parks, engage in community activities, and connect with our beautiful coastline, bushlands and waterways."
The development of the Active Bass Coast Plan is a major initiative identified in the Council Plan 2017-2021. Following on from the extensive engagement process which informed the Council Plan, the Active Bass Coast Plan was also developed through thorough community consultation.
Extensive engagement undertaken in March, which included online and paper surveys, multiple pop-up sessions, face to face engagement and Social Media promotions, informed the development of a Draft Active Bass Coast Plan, which was endorsed for exhibition in July.
During the exhibition period feedback on the Draft Plan was received through letters, face to face engagement, community information sessions and an online Facebook Q & A. The feedback captured during these sessions polished and shaped the final Plan.
