Support urgently needed for Traralgon ShowOrganisers of the Traralgon and District Agricultral Societ Show are appealing for volunteer to hel make this year's show a success and to ensure the future of the annual event remains strong. By Latrobe City council - 3rd June 2005 - Back to News Show President Richard Morgan said that the committee was in dire need of support to help organise all aspects of the show from volunteering to entertainment.
"We are looking for new committee members, volunteers, stewards, entertainers and most importantly, sponsors. We have openings for sponsorship covering prizes, specific events such as the ute competition and the fireworks display, as well as sponsorship for general infrastructure such as desks, wheelchair access and cladding for the pavilion," Mr Morgan explained.
"The logistics of organising an event on this scale can be bewildering but with the support of a hardworking committee and lots of help from volunteers, it does run smoothly. Our existing committee has worked hard for many years and feel that it is now time to get some new blood on board.
"Unfortunately, if we don’t recruit some new people, the future of the show will be put in jeopardy. We know the community loves the show, but it does not organise itself. We are certain there are many people out there willing to put their hands up and donate their own time to help out. But we need them to step forward," Mr Morgan said.
Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Bruce Lougheed, said that there were many benefits to be achieved by volunteering time or donating prizes or sponsorship.
"Volunteering time as a committee member or steward can be very rewarding. It may be hard work, but it can also be extremely good fun, and volunteers will often feel an enormous sense of achievement when the show is up and running," Cr Lougheed said.
"Local companies looking for a new angle for promoting their business should consider sponsoring an event, if appropriate, or donating a prize or prize money. There are many hundreds of visitors to the show each year so there is ample opportunity to tap a large potential market," Cr Lougheed added.
Member for Morwell, Brendan Jenkins MP said that he fully supported the Traralgon Show and its importance to the local community.
"This kind of event really brings out a strong sense of community. In our region, where farming and rural activities are an everyday way of life, it is important to promote and advance these pursuits.
"The Traralgon Show has been around for more than one hundred years and I am sure that the local community can rally and ensure that it continues for many more years in the future," Mr Jenkins concluded.
Persons interested in becoming a committee member, volunteer or sponsor can complete an expression of interest form by calling Show Secretary Lorraine Anderson on 5174 1366 or by picking one up at any Latrobe City Service Centre.
