Council Welcomes Mammoth Funding Boost For Rosedale Community Centre

Wellington Shire Council is delighted with the Federal Government’s announcement to provide a further $528,000 to help towards the construction of the much-needed new multi-purpose community centre for Rosedale.

This latest funding for the $2.4 million initiative has been announced today by the Federal Member for Gippsland Peter McGauran, and is provided through the Regional Partnerships Programme.

It adds to $297,000 received already through the Federal Government’s Regional Solutions Programme, along with $450,000 from the State Government, $20,000 raised by the local community over several years and $765,000 from the Council.

The new multi-purpose community centre will include provision for the pre-school, a library, neighbourhood house, community health services, as well as facilities for local senior citizens and other community groups. It means that for the first time the people of Rosedale will be able to benefit from all these services under one roof – providing much more convenient access to a broader range of community support.

Wellington Shire Council has also submitted an application for a Community Support Grant of $300,000, with a decision on this expected shortly.

Design work on the project is set to start in July, with construction work due to commence during the 2004-05 financial year.

Said Wellington’s acting Mayor John Jago: "We’re delighted with the tremendous level of funding that’s been provided by both the Federal and State Governments for this much-needed centre which will provide an indispensable range of services to the local community.

"Instrumental in driving this project forward has been the hard work and commitment of the Rosedale community itself, the council, and the active support of our local members.

"While we continue the concerted drive for further funding, our priority is to get this eagerly-awaited project underway as soon as possible."
