Latrobe Leisure Morwell Pool To Be Closed For Retiling Pool Closure Dates The swimming pool at Latrobe Leisure Morwell will be closed for retiling from 6pm on Sunday 1 July until Monday 13 August. By Latrobe City - 12th June 2012 - Back to News Latrobe City’s general manager recreation cultural and community infrastructure, Grantley Switzer, said that whilst the pool was closed it was the ideal time to implement a number of other renovations.
"Over the last 12 months sections of tiles have been lifting from the pool floor so until now preventative measures have been put in place to rectify the problem. However, now is the time to retile the entire pool. The idea of this project is to remove all tiling and screed from the floor, taking the pool back to its concrete structure and then re-screeding and re-tiling it from scratch," Mr Switzer said.
The additional works will include: painting of internal steel framing; replacement of wet deck grating; replacement of main pool wall grouting; replacement of main pool expansion joints; minor tiling repairs to toddler pool; replacement of toddler pool grouting; replacement of toddler pool expansion joints; refurbishment of pool heating circulation system and replacement of both main pool circulation pumps.
Ward Councillor, Bruce Lougheed, said this was a major renovation which would take around six weeks to complete.
"Whilst the pool hall is closed we will take the opportunity to carry out these additional works. However, it is important to remember that during the renovations the other areas of the leisure centre will be open for business as usual.
"Patrons can still access the gymnasium, the courts and the shop. Fitness classes will run as normal and for those who want to swim the pools at both Latrobe Leisure Churchill and Moe Newborough will be open," Cr Lougheed said.
"For the learn to swim program at Morwell, patrons have been offered either a short six-week program once the pool has been reopened; or the full ten-week program where the first four weeks’ of lessons can be undertaken at Churchill or Moe Newborough.
"Whilst the closure during the renovations may cause some inconvenience in the short term, the long-term benefits far outweigh this. Having a newly renovated pool will make swimming at Latrobe Leisure Morwell an even more enjoyable experience," Cr Lougheed concluded.
