Have Your Say On The Future Of Latrobe City Tourism

A draft report for the Latrobe City Tourism Product Audit and Review of Visitor Services has been released for public comment following Monday’s Council meeting.

By Latrobe City - 25th March 2011 - Back to News

The purpose of the Tourism Product Audit is to provide an understanding of Latrobe City’s products and strengths, the City’s point of difference and marketing positioning. The Review of Visitor Information Centre Services considers emerging visitor and technological trends and how these may guide future service delivery. The final report will inform strategic actions and provide direction for capitalising on Latrobe City’s assets, maximising marketing initiatives, funding applications and investment attraction.

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said that Council initiated the project to assist in identifying strengths and opportunities and redefining the role the municipality may play in tourism in the future; in both tourism development and the provision of visitor services.

"A key objective for Council is to enhance job creation and diversify the economic base in order to position and prepare the municipality to prosper in a low carbon emissions future. Latrobe City is one of Victoria’s largest regional centres and, as tourism is an important employer across the municipality, Council is keen to develop new tourism opportunities in the region.

"This report will help Council gain a greater understanding of current tourism trends, of promotional strategies and will allow informed decisions to be made regarding future tourism developments throughout Latrobe City," Cr White said.

Latrobe City general manager Economic Sustainability, Allison Jones, explained that the draft report is a proactive approach to ensure Latrobe City’s economy benefits from the tourism market into the future.

"Consultation has been undertaken with a broad range of stakeholders; including local and state government, businesses, community groups and individuals. The release of the draft report for public comment provides an opportunity for the broader community to ‘have their say’ and contribute towards the final report," Ms Jones concluded.
