Monday 5 December was International Volunteers Day and in Australia and the day has been designated as an opportunity to recognise and celebrate volunteer involvement in the community.

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Visitor Services Coordinator, Mr Peter Francis, said that volunteers played a vital role in the Centres.

"Without the dedication of our volunteer staff, we wouldn’t be able to offer the services we do.

"They make an invaluable contribution and we wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you," said Mr Francis.

Over 25 volunteers from the Wonthaggi and Inverloch Visitor Information Centres met up in Wonthaggi. The volunteers were presented with pens by Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Neville Goodwin, and were then treated to a morning tea at Rik’s Café.

A luncheon was held in Cowes on Tuesday, to thank the Phillip Island contingent of Visitor Information Centre volunteers.
