By Baw Baw Shire Council - 7th April 2006 - Back to News

Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Glenn Patterson said the new bus will benefit many users across the shire. "The community bus is used by the Baw Baw Shire Social Support & Meals on Wheels programs, ADASS program and is used by other community organisations such as Interchange,, Scope and the West Gippsland Hospital. There are many people who will use and benefit from this new bus.

"The bus is bigger and includes storage for our clients’ walkers and walking sticks meaning users will be more comfortable," said Mr Patterson.

The 12 seater Mercedes Benz Sprinter was partially funded by a state government grant after Council placed a submission to gain the bus upgrade. "The new vehicle replaces an older community bus, that could not house a wheel chair and remain a 12 seater bus," said Mr Patterson.

Council organised additions to the bus, which include the installation of seats and electric hoist suitable for wheelchairs to assist access on and off the bus. The new bus will continue to be available for hire by home and community care (HACC) funded agencies when available.
