The Detective Inspector’s antics are part of Latrobe City’s Arts Innovation Festival, where a number of events are being planned at the Latrobe Regional Gallery with a particular focus on bringing art to young people.

Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Darrel White, said that by devising a program which specifically catered to the young mind, a love of the arts could be fostered from an early age.

"The Gallery program includes fun gallery tours and art workshops. We want to do away with the age old fallacy that art galleries are not for children. We positively welcome children, teenagers and young adults to the Gallery," Cr White said.

Latrobe Regional Gallery’s Education and Programs Facilitator, Kelly Boucher, explained that the Detective Inspector would be undertaking his investigations from 1pm to 2pm, on both Sunday 9 and Sunday 16 May.

"Children of all ages will love this first introduction to the world of art. Detective Inspector Collage will provide a fun and entertaining approach to solving riddles and learning to look at art in a creative and innovative way," Ms Boucher said.

Latrobe City Box Office Coordinator, Kathleen Roberts, said that another highlight for children and high school students will be the exciting workshops, held at the gallery in association with the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre program.

"On Saturday 8 May from 2pm -3.30pm, to tie in with ‘The Forwards’ schools performances and the current exhibition ‘Chiaroscuro’, students will combine literacy and art and character development work in a character mapping workshop," Ms Roberts explained.

"While on Saturday 15 May from 2pm -3.30pm in association with the performances of ‘His Majesty’s New Clothes’, children can explore the notions of identity, and costume in the ‘My Couture’ art workshop," she added. The cost for each workshop is $7.70.

The Arts Innovation Festival runs for the month May and is part of the Gippsland Latrobe Innovation Festival.
