A plan to finish the iconic Krauatungalung Walk (KW) project in Lakes Entrance has won support from the Coalition, if it wins the federal election on May 3. Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has successfully lobbied his senior Coalition colleagues to deliver a $5 million election commitment for the final stages of the all-abilities boardwalk and circuit upgrades around Cunninghame Arm.

Finishing the job

Mr Chester said there was a lot at stake at this election, with the funding commitments focused on boosting the visitor economy and improving liveability in the town. "It's been a long process, but the first stage of the boardwalk and the indigenous-themed artwork have already proved popular in conjunction with the new playground, which was funded by the previous Coalition Government."

"I have been urging East Gippsland Shire Council to move as quickly as possible to use existing funding to complete the section in front of the houses and then move on to the next stage. This $5 million will finish the job, and obviously, I'm doing everything I can to help the Coalition win the election and secure the funding," Mr Chester said.

Connecting Lakes Entrance

Mr Chester has driven the all-abilities accessible walking circuit and boardwalk for the past five years and said the long-term vision had overwhelming support in the community. "The feedback from local residents and visitors is very positive."

"Everyone loves the changes we have been able to make to transform the esplanade and Bullock Island over the past few years, and the Krauatungalung Walk is the logical next step for a unique experience on the foreshore of the Gippsland Lakes."

"Telling the stories of Indigenous people and the more recent history of our town in such a public location is an exciting initiative, and I'm doing everything I can to keep the project moving forward," Mr Chester said.
