Latrobe City Scoop Basketball AwardsThe Annual Big V awards night was a huge success for Latrobe City basketball with players from both Energy and Pacers receiving a total of six awards in front of over 700 people at Moonee Valley Race Course on Saturday night. By Latrobe City Pacers - 12th October 2006 - Back to News Highlight of the night was the announcement of Carmen Dean as Most Valuable Player for Division 2 Women.
Dean was up against stiff competition including 5 players who made the finals representing Hawthorn, Craigieburn, Monash Uni and Mildura.
Deans average of 24.6 points, 3 assists and 3.45 steals a game were enough to win the MVP as well as leading scorer and all-star 5 forward for the Division 2 Women.
Joining Dean in the All Star 5 as Centre was Tara Carroll, her 13.7 rebounds per game for the Energy also winning her the leading rebound award for Division 2 Women.
Jordan Canovan from the Pacers won the much coveted Youth Player of the Year for the Championship Mens Division. Canovan had an excellent season contributing 15 points per game at an impressive 44% accuracy.
The six awards received by the Latrobe City teams was only bettered by Dandenong with 11 awards and Warrnambool with 10 awards.
This represented a fantastic effort considering a total of 36 associations shared in the 128 Big V awards and as many as 8 associations went unrewarded. The Big V is one of the largest semi-professional basketball leagues in the world and has 44 associations with 91 teams competing in 9 competitions (5 Men & 4 Women).
Season 2007 will commence in March.
