‘Burning Eddy’ author at GalleryYinnar South author, Scot Gardner, will be signing copies of his new book ‘Burning Eddy’ at Latrobe Regional Gallery in Morwell on Saturday between 2.30pm and 3.30pm. By Latrobe City - 14th May 2003 - Back to News Mr Gardner’s rapid rise to celebrity has been nothing short of remarkable. Having started writing just three years ago, ‘Burning Eddy’ is his third novel and he already has two further novels in the pipeline.
Aimed at adolescents and young adults, Mr Gardner’s writing draws on his own experiences, growing up firstly in the city and then in the bush. His fond recollections of his childhood in Yinnar South feature prominently in his latest work.
Mr Gardner said that ‘Burning Eddy’ is based on the friendship between Daniel, a teenager growing up in Yinnar South, and an 86 year old Dutch woman named Eddy.
"Daniel works on Eddy’s garden and there he finds not only friendship, but hope. The book features a variety of the region’s animals as symbols to help tell the story. Growing up in the bush taught me about the nature of animals and how they adapt to their environment," Mr Gardner said.
"The theme of fire in ‘Burning Eddy’ came from my vivid memories of a major bushfire in Gippsland," Mr Gardner added.
Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Graeme Middlemiss, said that his appearance at the Gallery should serve as a great inspiration to the youth of Latrobe City, considering he is a local himself. As well as writing, Mr Gardner visits schools around Australia giving talks on being an author.
"Mr Gardner has drawn upon his personal experiences in life to write engaging and descriptive novels for young adults. We look forward to welcoming him to Latrobe Regional Gallery for the book signing, and hope that his impressive achievements to date can motivate and inspire our young people," Cr Middlemiss concluded.
