Celebrate Tourism Week At Latrobe City Council’S Visitor Information CentreLatrobe City Council’s Visitor Information Centre is holding an open day that will showcase Latrobe City as a premier tourism destination, along with plenty of giveaways and a sausage sizzle for all those in attendance. By Latrobe City Shire - 10th September 2010 - Back to News The celebration will be held at the Old Church, near the railway station, in Traralgon on Saturday 11 September. The celebration is a part of Victoria’s inaugural Tourism Week, which is designed to instil a strong sense of community pride amongst locals, where they will encourage their family and friends to come and experience all the region has to offer.
Latrobe City Council Mayor, Cr Kellie O’Callaghan, said that people travel long distances to experience different sights because they don’t realise what is in their own backyard.
"The area we live in is so varied that it is possible to experience almost anything within Latrobe City. Some of the experiences include going bushwalking in a national park, skydiving, attending a multi-cultural festival, or visiting historical sites. At the Visitor Information Centre we are dedicated to helping people explore the City and trying to build the profile of some lesser known, yet wonderful tourist attractions.
"Some great places to explore include the Old Brown Coal Museum, Peterson’s Lookout, Tyers Park, Narkoojee Winery, Boolarra Water Wheel Orchard and so many more. The Visitor Information Centre helps locals, and visitors, become better acquainted with the Latrobe Valley and surrounds," Cr O’Callaghan said.
The Visitor Centre’s coordinator, Shannyn Kiss, explained that the day includes a free barbeque from 11am to 1pm, arranged by the Traralgon Lions Club, and a few surprises from the Visitor Information Centre.
"There will be loads of free advice available from the tourism professionals on the day, but if anybody can’t make it to the open day, they can call in any time. The Visitor Centre is open from 9am to 5pm, 7 days a week.
"Everybody that does attend open day will have a chance to win one of three fantastic prizes, just by calling into the Visitor’s Centre to enter. Prizes include two nights of luxury accommodation at the Wilderness Retreats in Wilsons Promontory, a swim with the dolphins at Port Phillip Marine Park, or one nights accommodation in Melbourne at Punthill Apartment Hotels," Ms Kiss explained.
