Phillip Island fire brigade celebrates opening of new $3M station in CowesPhillip Island celebrated the upgraded fire station despite average weather, welcoming notable figures like CFA officers, politicians, the Mayor, and dedicated volunteers. By news@gippsland - 14th December 2023 - Back to News Phillip Island had a fantastic opening ceremony this week for the upgraded fire station on Ventnor Road, Cowes. Whilst the weather was pretty average, it didn't stop the community from coming along and getting involved in the celebrations. The brigade was joined by CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan, Deputy Chief Officer South East Trevor Owen as well as Member for Bass Jordan Crugnale MP who was representing the Minister for Emergency Services. 
The Phillip Island Fire brigade is completely 100 run by volunteers, currently boasting 57 dedicated members Community fire supportMayor, Cr Clare Le Serve also joined the celebrations along with some local staff who are also dedicated CFA volunteers. The Phillip Island fire brigade was established in 1937 and currently houses three fire trucks and a forward command vehicle. This new facility was built at a cost of just over $3 million and delivers on a critical community need in Cowes. The Phillip Island fire brigade is completely 100% run by volunteers, currently boasting 57 dedicated members reflecting the diversity of the community. 
Mayor Cr Clare LeServe (centre) also joined the celebrations along with Deputy Mayor Rochelle Halstead and CFA Group Officer Damien O'Connor Enhanced fire facilityOn average the brigade responds to around 160 calls each year. The new station will support CFA to meet community needs and respond to a growing resident and visitor population, providing a significant upgrade to the previous facility. This brand new facility has four drive through engine bays; two separate change rooms; two office spaces and a multi-purpose meeting room. It also has a workshop and storeroom with an impressive functional breathing apparatus maintenance and cleaning room.
