Mayor welcomes Good Beginnings funding Latrobe City Mayor has welcomed the announcement of the Federal Government’s $280,000 funding By Latrobe City Council - 6th June 2001 - Back to News Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Brendan Jenkins, has welcomed the announcement of the Federal Government’s $280,000 funding for the Good Beginnings Program in Latrobe.
"This is wonderful news that ensures the continuance of a vital program that has provided a range of important support services to numerous families over the past three years," Cr Jenkins said.
"This announcement is a credit to the hard work put into lobbying the Federal Government by Christian Zahra and Senator Judith Troeth, and numerous citizens, and is a recognition that there is a real need for this program here in Latrobe.
"In particular, the enthusiasm for the program, and the dedication from the Program Coordinator, Kellie O’Callaghan needs to be recognised. Without her determination in staying on board, when all seemed lost, hundreds of families would have struggled alone," Cr Jenkins said.
"We should also acknowledge the generous donation which was made anonymously, which played a key role in rescuing the program in the interim, while Canberra reconsidered their initial decision not to continue with funding.
"It seems the Federal Government is finally listening to the citizens of Latrobe. With expectations from the State Government’s Taskforce findings, and ongoing undertakings at a local government level by Council, Latrobe’s community can look forward to a whole of government approach to delivering programs that build a better and more caring environment for Latrobe’s citizens," Cr Jenkins added.
