Honouring veterans in the Latrobe valleyProgram of restoration and redevelopment of the memorials and avenues to commemorate the veterans. By news@gippsland - 24th April 2021 - Back to News The Latrobe Valley has received $9740 for two projects from the Victorian Government and the Victorian Veterans Council. Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing welcomed the announcement in the lead up to ANZAC Day by Minister for Veterans, the Hon Shaun Leane MP as part of the Victoria Remembers Grant Program and the Restoring Community War Memorials and Avenues of Honour Program.
Veterans should be honoured not just in a particular day but everyday, from their great contribution in our country, it is just right that we give them support they deserve
Bechaz Art Designs, in partnership with the Yallourn Newborough RSL, has received $4,500 to fund the installation of a mural on the exterior wall of the RSL club. Latrobe City Council has received $5,241.64 to install underground lighting for the Yinnar War Memorial.
Keeping veterans honoured
Minister for Veterans, the Hon Shaun Leane MP said, "We are giving Victorian veterans the support they need to deserve in their civilian lives, and ensuring we properly honour them for their enormous contribution to our country."
"Our veterans should be honoured every day, not just on ANZAC Day. This is why the Victorian Government is proud to fund these initiatives which will support veteran wellbeing and ensure their service and sacrifice is remembered. We must preserve their legacy for future generations and embrace new and innovative ways to educate Victorians about their service."
Appreciating veterans service through arts
Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said, "I am deeply grateful to all of those in the Latrobe Valley who have served our country and am committed to supporting them and their carers and families. It is important we honour their service and sacrifice not just on ANZAC Day, but every day."
"This funding will ensure our veterans are properly honoured in the Latrobe Valley and I appreciate Bechaz Art Designs, the Yallourn Newborough RSL and Latrobe City Council for their important work on these projects."
Victorian veterans are being honoured by restoring Community War Memorials, Avenues of Honour program and grants to support and commemorate veterans and to preserve war heritage
