Costs are all on the record says Mayor

Latrobe City Mayor, Cr Graeme Middlemiss has maintained that the budgeted construction costs of the new Corporate Headquarters are in line with the budget projections given over the past two years.

By Latrobe City Council - 23rd June 2003 - Back to News

"There is nothing surprising in the figures presented to media outlets in the past few days by Councillor Tyler. Many of these figures given are already on the public record and in accordance with ensuring the project is responsibly managed, and a cost-effective, functional and utilitarian Corporate Headquarters comes into being," Cr Middlemiss said.

"What should concern Latrobe City ratepayers is the cost increases created by project delays. The debate now and for some time is not about whether the new Corporate Headquarters should be built, and where; but increasingly it is becoming a question of why it hasn’t already commenced," Cr Middlemiss said.

"What has been overlooked are the operational cost savings that come with the new Corporate Headquarters. Ratepayers can expect to see savings of fifty to a hundred thousand dollars a year in operational cost savings alone.

"It is now time to move on, and get the Corporate Headquarters constructed so that all Councillors turn their attention to what they should be doing, which is a constant endeavour to improve the quality of life for Latrobe citizens," Cr Middlemiss added.
