Darren Chester strengthens partnership with Latrobe City Council to advocate for Gippsland priorities and future federal projects
Darren Chester met with Latrobe City Council to discuss federal advocacy priorities, highlight successful partnerships delivering key projects, and reaffirm commitment to securing fair investment for Gippsland.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has met with Latrobe City Council representatives to discuss federal advocacy priorities and build on the strong record of partnership between local and federal governments in delivering projects across the region.
Darren Chester met with Latrobe City Council Mayor Dale Harriman, along with other council representatives, to discuss federal advocacy priorities as both levels of government work together to secure funding and deliver projects to benefit the region
Delivering for Latrobe
Mr Chester said, "Over many years, I've worked closely with Latrobe City Council to secure funding for projects that make a real difference in the lives of locals. Together we have worked to deliver major projects such as the:
- Gippsland Performing Arts Centre
- Traralgon-Sale highway duplication
- Flynn Community Hall
- Morwell CBD Revitalisation
- Gippsland Cancer Centre
- Rotary Centenary House
- Morwell Recreation Reserve Redevelopment
- Traralgon Recreation Reserve Pavilion
- Churchill Hockey Pavilion
- Gippsland Rail Line Upgrade
"These projects are the result of strong partnerships and a shared commitment to advocate strongly for building better facilities and improving liveability across the Latrobe Valley," he said.
Fighting for funding
Mr Chester said he welcomed the opportunity to hear about council's current list of priority projects, but is concerned about the lack of funding under the Albanese government. "It's always helpful to understand council's priorities so I can continue to advocate for Gippsland in Canberra and seek grant opportunities where possible."
"There's a strong focus within council on building new job opportunities, supporting business and industry growth, and making sure our community facilities keep pace with other regions. Unfortunately, regional funding opportunities are limited under Prime Minister Albanese, but I'll keep fighting to ensure Gippsland receives its fair share of investment in the future," Mr Chester said.
