South Gippsland Shire Council declaration of polls and other council project updates 7 November 2024
South Gippsland Shire updates include new councillors' introduction, ArtCubes exhibitions in Foster, Garage Sale Trail, storm recovery session, green waste amnesty, Parr Street rezoning feedback, and Bass Strait decommissioning info sessions.
Voting in the South Gippsland Shire Council election has now closed. Please join the South Gippsland Shire Council in welcoming a new councillor group at the Memorial Hall in Leongatha. Results will be published as soon as they are finalised. All the results will be declared on 15 November 2024.

ArtCubes in Foster
The ArtCubes are now located in Foster at Manna Gum Community House where they will reside for the next three months. The Cubes have a stellar line-up of local artists and community groups exhibiting their works from within. Don't miss out on the many workshops, lessons and displays. Garage Sale Trail
The Garage Sale Trail is kicking off this weekend! From Saturday 9 to Sunday 10 November and Saturday 16 to Sunday 17 November, people all around South Gippsland are opening their garage's and participating in one of Australia's most sustainable shopping events. Shop 'till you drop this weekend at Nyora, Loch, Poowong, Korumburra, Leongatha, Foster and Mirboo North. Storm recovery session
South Gippsland Shire Council and the Community Recovery Working Group are pleased to host a free recovery and resilience session on Wednesday 13 November at the Mirboo North Shire Hall.
Guest speaker Dr Rob Gordon will return to Mirboo North to share his insights into practical and emotional responses after emergency events such as those experienced during the February storm, what to expect in the second half of the first year of recovery and how to build resilience for future emergencies. Green waste amnesty period
Dispose of your green waste for free! Council's Green Waste Amnesty is on now until 31 December 2024. Residents can dispose of their green waste for free at any of Council's transfer stations until the end of the Amnesty period.
The Amnesty aims to encourage residents to prepare their properties for the fire season by removing potential fire hazards. To view the list of excluded plant species and find your closest transfer station, please go to Green Waste Amnesty Period website.

Decommissioning of Oil and Gas Infrastructure in Bass Strait
Esso Australia Resources is dedicated to the safe operation and decommissioning of its Gippsland and Bass Strait facilities. After over 50 years of energy production, many Bass Strait oil and gas fields are nearing the end of their productive life. As decommissioning plans advance, Esso is committed to safely shutting down non-producing facilities.

Community sporting facilities
Applications are now open for the Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund. The Fund aims to assist local communities in planning, designing and building essential sports facilities. This includes indoor stadiums, aquatic facilities and upgrades for women and girls, as well as inclusive infrastructure for all abilities.
Additional grants of up to $50,000 are available to enhance participation for people with disabilities. Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund closes Monday 17 March 2025. For more information and to apply, please visit Sporting Facilities Fund website.
