Latrobe to host forum on winning government business

Latrobe City is hosting one of a series of two-hour regional forums designed to provide advice on winning government business.

By Latrobe City Council - 6th November 2006 - Back to News

The training sessions have been developed by the Procurement Group, Department of Treasury and Finance, and will be delivered by the Procurement and Contracting Centre for Education and Research (PACCER) www.paccer.vic.gov.au.

The session will take place from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on Wednesday 15 November in the Function Room at the Civic Centre in Traralgon.

Latrobe City’s manager economic development, Allison Jones, said the forum provides a fantastic opportunity for businesses within Latrobe City and the Gippsland area to learn and use the information from the seminar, to take advantage of the many state government contracts up for tender.

"The Victorian Government spends $10 billion each year on sourcing goods and services from the private sector and regional and small businesses can actively participate in the area of government procurement," Ms Jones explained.

"The ‘Winning Government Business’ forums are practical and informative and will assist potential suppliers to identify opportunities as well as maximise their chances to secure contracts. The forums cover all aspects of government purchasing from use of the quotation process to calling and evaluating tenders.

"Participants will gain first-hand knowledge and advice on marketing their products and services to Government, as well as invaluable information about the documentation requirements of the competitive tendering process," Ms Jones said.

"In addition, the forum will provide for a discussion of local issues that may affect one’s ability to do business with the government.

"State government spending can be accessed by suppliers through either the tender or quotation process.

"For many suppliers unable to bid for tenders, there are still significant opportunities to secure high-value contracts through the quotation process," Ms Jones added.

PACCER advises that departments and agencies are required to obtain quotes for spending between $2,000 and $102,500, unless an exemption is obtained. As the quotation process is quicker and easier to manage for suppliers than the public tender process, quotations provide potential suppliers with an attractive avenue to secure contracts that can be substantial in their dollar value.

The workshop cost is $80 per person with seminar material and light refreshments are provided. For enquiries and registration, please call PACCER Training, telephone 9651 2590. Registration is necessary for those wanting to attend.
