‘Vanishing Point’ consists of more than 1,600 hand-made porcelain cones that are lit internally by LED lights. This installation highlights the phenomena of global warming, and more specifically, the changing coastline of Antarctica.

Latrobe City’s Green Expectations creative director, Alison Taylor, said the installation maps out the state of the Antarctic ice as a result of global warming caused by climate change.

"Visitors to the gallery enter a darkened room to view an enchanting simulation of the Antarctic. The installation is illuminated by soft white and blue lights arranged to illustrate those sections of the Antarctic which are currently melting or have melted as a result of global warming. The installation is moving and thought provoking about the changes that are occurring to our planet," Ms Taylor said.

"Green Expectations has commissioned this work to give the community an opportunity to reflect on climate change effects occurring outside the region. By creating this awareness, we can all be inspired to reduce our greenhouse emissions and therefore our impact on the warming climate.

"The artwork forms part of the final Green Expectations project called The Grid which aims to make a connection between how we ulitise the electricity grid, and how our power use impacts on the global environment."

‘Vanishing Point’ will feature at the Latrobe Regional Gallery until Friday 19 June.
