San Remo Access Strategy AdoptedThe San Remo Access Strategy was considered and adopted by Bass Coast Shire Council at last night’s Ordinary Meeting. By Bass Coast - 23rd August 2013 - Back to News A significant number of changes were made to the original draft strategy in response to community consultation, with Council receiving 43 submissions.
These submissions included opposition to an extension of Bonwick Avenue, as well as using Shetland Heights Road for a main route and closing access to Phillip Island Road from San Remo Parade and Keams Crescent.
Overwhelmingly, the main concern of the submitters was the extension to Davis Point Road through the existing foreshore caravan park, with 19 submissions expressing this point.
There was also support for a number of improvements in the plan, including improved pedestrian and bike paths and road sealing.
Cr Bradley Drew moved an amended motion to adopt the strategy with one change; to remove the reference to the extension of David Point Road through to Bergin Grove and Back Beach Road.
Cr Drew said the Caravan Park played an important role in the community and needed to be preserved.
Council’s Planning and Environment Director, Hannah Duncan-Jones, said the strategy had been undertaken over a number of years and involved a significant amount of discussion and involvement with the community.
"Council’s adoption of the strategy allows us to commence a program of implementation in accordance with the report’s recommendations and budget constraints of Council."
