Moe Gardens Caravan Park under new management

Former Moe residents, Eddie and Kytrina Savige have returned to Latrobe City to manage the Moe Gardens Caravan Park.

By Latrobe Shire Council - 17th August 2004 - Back to News

After 35 years away from the region travelling and running a variety of businesses, they are both excited about settling down in Moe again.

"The Savige family is well represented throughout this area, being one of the original settler families, and Moe certainly has plenty to offer. It is only an hour to beaches and snow laden ski-fields, a quick distance from Melbourne, and also within comfortable driving distance to national parks and the grand Gippsland Lakes," Eddie said.

The Moe Gardens Caravan Park is operated by Latrobe City Council and has been undergoing a planned works program since Eddie and Kytrina took over the lease earlier this year.

Eddie explained that he envisages the Moe Gardens Caravan Park as a busy place, well-known to travellers and locals alike. Future projects being investigated include own-your-own cabins, security fencing and the development of a new barbeque and garden area.

"We already have about 80 powered sites and 40 non-powered sites capable of accommodating plenty of visitors. We also have on-site vans and cabins for rental, some of which also have ensuites," Eddie said.

Since taking over the lease, Eddie and Kytrina have been busy putting their ideas for the park into practice and hosting guests from throughout Australia.

"Recently, the State Archery and Volleyball Championships brought plenty of visitors to Moe. We have also had people stay here who are associated with bike racing, the recent fast railway upgrade, as well as the snow trippers to Mount Erica and Mount St Gwinear," Eddie explained.

Eddie and Kytrina have had plenty of business experience, and Kytrina feels that this previous experience will help make Moe Gardens Caravan Park a success.

"In Port Macquarie we managed an oyster farm and in Northern Victoria we ran a general store and post office. I have learnt that customer service is the essence of running any business successfully, and meeting interesting people is always a bonus to the job," Kytrina added.
