Morwell service centres to be consolidatedLatrobe City’s Morwell service centre operations will be consolidated to Latrobe City’s corporate headquarters at 141 Commerical Road, from Monday 20 June 2005. Opening hours will be 8.30am – 5.15pm Monday to Friday. By Latrobe City Council - 20th May 2005 - Back to News Latrobe City’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Philip Marsh, said the consolidation follows the completion of an evaluation of collocated library and service centre operations, and a review into the duplication of business operations in Morwell following the opening of the corporate headquarters.
"When the corporate headquarters opened in Morwell in March, we decided to retain the Elgin Street service centre in the short term, to finalise an evaluation of collocated library and service centre operations we were undertaking.
"That evaluation has now finished, and our studies of Elgin Street patronage has also revealed that the vast majority of Morwell customers with service centre needs have now embraced the new service centre location in Commercial Road,’ Mr Marsh explained.
As a result, it now makes sense to consolidate our Morwell customer service provision to the corporate headquarters," Mr Marsh said.
Mr Marsh said the library would still be retained in Elgin Street. "Only the service centre component is being consolidated," he said.
From Monday 20 June, Morwell Library hours at 63-65 Elgin Street will be Monday-Friday 9.30am-5.30pm, and Saturday 9am-12 noon. This is in accordance with recommendations from surveys conducted during the pilot program.
Mr Marsh said that the Morwell library and service centre pilot that commenced in October 2004, following the sale of Latrobe House Morwell to make way for the Justice Precinct, was highly successful in demonstrating the benefits of the collocation of library and business operations.
"As most people will be aware, a new library is being built in Traralgon that is four times the size of the current library in Breed Street; and this is being collocated with the Traralgon Service Centre in the civic precinct. The valuable experience gained from the Morwell pilot will be used in planning for the service delivery at Traralgon and also potentially at Moe," Mr Marsh said.
