Latrobe Valley Fishing Spots Stocked With Fish In Time For School Holidays

Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe is encouraging children and their families to get out and catch their first fish these school holidays.

750 „Ready to catch‟ rainbow trout have been released into both the Morwell Lake and Hyland Lake in Churchill in time for the school holidays.

"Fisheries Victoria has been stocking 60 lakes across the state throughout June as part of the Family Fishing Lakes program," Mr Northe said.

"Gippsland has some fantastic fishing spots on offer and the school holidays are a great time for people to get outside and enjoy them," Mr Northe said.

"Having „ready to catch‟ trout stocked into local lakes and dams provides a great opportunity for children and their families to get outdoors and enjoy the environment, and have a go at catching their first fish.

"Rainbow trout are a great fish to be targeted by children because they are relatively easy to catch and take a variety of baits and lures.

"I encourage people living in the Latrobe Valley area and visitors to our region to head out and make the most of our well stocked lakes and dams these school holidays."

Mr Northe said it was important anglers remembered trout cannot be taken from most rivers at this time of year and there was a daily bag limit of five trout, of which only two could exceed 35cm.

For more details refer to the Victorian Recreational Fishing Guide, which is available free of charge from most fishing tackle shops, Department of Primary Industries offices or by ringing the Customer Service Centre on 136 186.
