Staff Receive Inside Information On Corporate Headquarters Management and staff representatives from Latrobe City Council have been provided with ‘inside information’ on the new municipal corporate headquarters currently under construction in Morwell. By Latrobe Shire Council - 5th May 2004 - Back to News Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said the building had reached the stage where a great deal of work was being completed inside the shell, to the extent where the functionality of the complex could be understood.
"During the past week we’ve conducted walkthroughs of the complex with councillors, management and staff representatives, to update them on progress to date and provide them with a visual assessment of the floor space and the way various aspects of the building work will together," Cr White explained.
"Most of the work on the complex is now taking place inside. Various internal spaces are taking shape such as offices, meeting rooms, storerooms, kitchens and toilets; in fact everything that goes towards making a corporate headquarters efficient and functional.
Latrobe City’s Chief Executive Officer, Richard Hancock, said a Project Control Group (PCG) had been established which had representation of staff members and management from all sections of the organisation.
"The transition from several offices across the municipality to one corporate headquarters will be a significant logistical undertaking and the PCG has been formed to ensure the transition is undertaken smoothly, and staff throughout the organisation are kept informed of all aspects of the transition.
"The PCG has already surveyed many staff members and taken their feedback into consideration for the layout options, and further staff communication sessions are taking place this week," Mr Hancock said.
"While the actual number of staff transitioning to the new corporate headquarters is one hundred and ninety, accommodation for two-hundred staff has been allowed for in planning the layout of the office space," Mr Hancock said.
"The open-plan design of the interior layout has been designed to ensure it complements the actual structure of the building. The layout of the work areas will lead to greater work efficiencies between various council departments as well as a greater flow of communication. The overall outcome will be an increased focus on customer service.
"During the development of the internal layout the design teams constantly took into consideration occupational health and safety best practice, and ergonomics standards and guidelines. To complement the physical efficiencies of the building, an updated computer system is already being progressively installed throughout the organisation which will ensure greater and more efficient customer service," Mr Hancock said.
Apart from staff workstations, the new corporate headquarters features, eleven formal and informal meeting rooms, fifteen discussion areas, two staff tea rooms, public accessible meeting areas where those making enquiries can discuss issues with council officers, and a large open courtyard.
The public reception area has been designed in consultation with disability access workers, so that counters feature at various levels and information is provided in languages other than English that reflect community needs in the Latrobe City region. A family facilities room with breastfeeding and nappy changing facilities is also being incorporated.
Mr Hancock said that criteria for the corporate headquarters design included quality, durability, simplicity and flexibility.
"All these aspects ensure that the building both externally and internally will operate as efficiently and look just as good in ten years time, as upon opening," Mr Hancock concluded.
