New Beach Access At Inverloch

The Inverloch Foreshore will be more accessible thanks to a new set of stairs.

By Bass Coast - 22nd June 2012 - Back to News

Bass Coast Shire Council constructed the timber stairs, public seating and safety barriers in the area adjacent to the Glade.

Council’s Planning and Environment Director, Hannah Duncan Jones, said that the works were conducted in response to the shifting sands of Anderson Inlet.

"Over the last year the landward movement of the channel and wave erosion has resulted in damage to over twenty beach access tracks at Inverloch.

"Several of these tracks had to be closed and we have been progressively doing works to get them reopened," said Ms Duncan Jones.
At the site of the newly completed track, pedestrians were scrambling over a boulder wall in order to reach the beach. Others created their own track by walking through a nearby sensitive sand dune, causing erosion.

"The works, like many others to improve beach access at Inverloch were funded by Cr Smith’s discretionary ward fund", continued Ms Duncan Jones.

"Over the years several beach access tracks in Inverloch have been constructed by a committed group of volunteers lead by Stan Stubbs.

"Council is very appreciative of the work conducted by the volunteers.

"The volunteer contribution means we save considerably on labour costs. They are also enthusiastic about the projects and helping to make our beaches accessible for everyone".
