Time is running out to cast your vote in the 2024 Local Council Elections. Please make sure you have sent your ballot pack via mail or delivered it in person to the election office at Carinos, 6-12 Smith Street Leongatha, before 6.00pm on Friday 25 October. Storm recovery session
South Gippsland Shire Council and the Community Recovery Working Group are pleased to host a free recovery and resilience session on Wednesday 13 November at the Mirboo North Shire Hall.
Guest speaker Dr Rob Gordon will return to Mirboo North to share his insights into practical and emotional responses after emergency events such as those experienced during the February storm, what to expect in the second half of the first year of recovery and how to build resilience for future emergencies. Gippsland Wine Awards
Last week, Wine Gippsland hosted the 2024 Westpac Gippsland Wine Show awards dinner at Carrajung Estate. The night saw a high calibre of local vintner's up for recognition. A big congratulations to our very own Gippsland Wine Company for the Best Wine of Show for their 2023 Loch Chardonnay. They also received the Top Gold Chardonnay trophy. Congratulations to Waratah Hills who won a silver award for their Pinot Noir.

Green waste amnesty period
Council's annual Green Waste Amnesty period is starting soon. The amnesty will run from 2 November until 31 December 2024. Residents can dispose of their green waste for free at any of Council's transfer stations until the end of the amnesty period.
The amnesty aims to encourage residents to prepare their properties for the fire season by removing potential fire hazards. To view the list of excluded plant species and find your closest transfer station, please go to Green Waste Amnesty Period website.
The Green Waste Amnesty runs from November 2 to December 31, 2024, allowing residents to dispose of green waste free at transfer stations
Garage Sale Trail
The Garage Sale Trail is coming to South Gippsland. From Saturday 9 to Sunday 10 November and Saturday 16 to Sunday 17 November, people all around South Gippsland are opening their garage's and participating in one of Australia's most sustainable shopping events.
So far, sales have been registered in Loch, Poowong, Bena, Leongatha and Mirboo North. Whether you're a seller or a shopper there is still time to get involved. To register a store or map out your perfect Garage Sale Trail, please visit Garage Sale Trail website.
The Garage Sale Trail is in South Gippsland from November 9-10 and 16-17, encouraging sustainable shopping. Sellers and shoppers are welcome!
3G is closing soon
Time is running out to check your tech to make sure it will still work once Telstra and Optus close their 3G networks on 28 October. Impacted devices may include phones, smartwatches, tablets, in-home personal emergency alarms, EFTPOS terminals and fire and security alarms. Australia Day Awards
There is still time to cast your nominations for the 2025 South Gippsland Australia Day Awards. These awards are a chance to recognise and celebrate the many unsung heroes in our region. From the dedicated individual on weekend canteen duty to the organisers of events that unite our community, your nomination acknowledges the significant impact these individuals have on our community.
The award categories are:
- Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year
- Community Event of the Year
If you know someone or an event that deserves recognition for the amazing work they do, please nominate them for an award at Australia Day Awards website. Nominations close Wednesday 6 November 2024.
Gippsland dairy industry
The Gippsland Dairy Industry Leadership Group is seeking stakeholder engagement to develop the Gippsland Dairy Industry Strategy. This Strategy will showcase opportunities for investment in the region, inform regional planning, identify focus areas for cross industry partnerships, and detail actions needed to ensure a prosperous and responsive industry into the future.

Art connect: Open studio trail
After a successful first year, Art Connect's Open Studio Trail is back for a second time. Visit a variety of studios and venues throughout South Gippsland showcasing the artistic talent of our region.
