An evening of suburban entertainment coming to LatrobeLatrobe Regional Performing Arts Centre is hosting ‘An Evening With’ starring Collette Mann and Deborah Kennedy, on Friday 24 October, featuring two monologues from the Talking Heads series. By Latrobe City Council - 14th October 2003 - Back to News Latrobe’s Manager Arts, Paul Holton said that since Talking Heads was telecast by the BBC, it has had numerous professional and amateur productions - testimony to its popularity and critical acclaim.
"HIT Productions present ’Her Big Chance’ and ‘Bed Among the Lentils’ both of which offer excellent studies of resilient victims who reside in the margins of suburbia. These two monologues shine with Alan Bennett’s unique take on human foibles. They are inspiring, darkly funny, wise and deeply moving," Mr Holton explained.
"This production stars two of Australia’s most popular and versatile actors. The role of Lesley in ‘Her Big Chance’ is played by Collette Mann (Prisoner, The Vagina Monologues). Lesley is an optimistic and ambitious actress who still yearns to have a serious film career, but fails to recognise that her career has been on the wrong track and that she has been used by ruthless directors," Mr Holton said.
"Susan, in ‘Bed Among the Lentils’, is played by Deborah Kennedy (Soulmates, The Sum of Us). Susan is the acidly witty but excruciatingly bored wife of a Yorkshire vicar, who doesn’t realise that it’s not just the woman in the store but the whole parish that knows she’s an alcoholic. Susan escapes her dreary life by having an affair with a younger man. When the affair ends, Susan is confined to the living hell of both the church and Alcoholics Anonymous," Mr Holton continued.
"Audiences will appreciate the dark humour and witty portrayal of suburban life that these monologues offer," Mr Holton concluded.
Tickets are priced at $18 adults, $15 concession, $16 group (10 or more) and $45 family and are available from Select Music Systems, Traralgon on telephone 5174 2849.
