New Building Regulations

East Gippsland Shire Council is reminding designers, builders and owner-builders that building regulation changes come into effect from June 2005.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 18th March 2005 - Back to News

Municipal Building Surveyor Leigh Collings said the old Building Regulations 1994 will ‘sunset’ in June and in its place will be a new, and in some areas totally revised, set of regulations that have been developed by the State Government and the Building Commission in consultation with stakeholders and the building industry.

"Part of the new regulations will include the requirement for Owner-Builders to be registered with the Building Commission before a building permit is issued," Mr Collings said.

Mr Collings also said that the Australian Building Codes Board had recently issued its revised format Building Code of Australia.

"The Code is updated annually and the next edition - BCA 2005 - will be effective from May 2005," he said

"Designers, builders, engineers and professionals working in the building industry are encouraged to become familiar with the Code’s new provisions that can be viewed on the Australian Building codes Board web site www.abcb.gov.au."
