Call for volunteers for Meals on WheelsLatrobe City seeking volunteers for Meals on Wheels program in Traralgon and Morwell. By Latrobe City Council - 23rd March 2001 - Back to News Latrobe City is currently seeking more volunteers for its Meals on Wheels program in Traralgon and Morwell.
Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Brendan Jenkins said that the Meals on Wheels programs in Traralgon and Morwell had grown considerably in the year 2001 and more help was urgently needed to provide the service.
“Many citizens in the community benefit from receiving the nourishing meals delivered by our volunteers. While the meals themselves are subsidised by Council and the State Government, and the preparation is under Council contract, Latrobe and all municipalities depend on the good will of everyday people in the community to deliver the meals to homes throughout Latrobe,” Cr Jenkins said.
“Meals on Wheels provides support for aged and less mobile people in our community, by allowing them to live independently. They can rely on being able to access a nourishing hot meal each day, delivered by a team of volunteers.
“Councillor Graeme Bond said the Traralgon program was at the stage where another delivery round needed to be created, and said Morwell was also seeking the assistance of more volunteers.
“Delivering Meals on Wheels can be as simple as just dedicating an hour or so once a month or fortnight on a regular basis. A contribution is made towards petrol, so the key essence volunteers are giving is their time,” Cr Bond said.
“Our volunteers do a terrific job and meet lots of friends through the work they are doing,” Cr Bond added.
“If you have an hour to spare one day a week, on a fortnightly or monthly basis, the Meals on Wheels delivery service would greatly appreciate your help,” Cr Bond concluded.
