Emerging Artists Make Connections At Latrobe Performing Arts Centre Emerging Artists Make Connections At Latrobe Performing Arts Centre Currently on show at the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre in Traralgon Connections exhibits art works by graduates of the VCE Beyond the Classroom program. By Latrobe City - 19th July 2013 - Back to News Beyond the Classroom is an annual program which includes art works and performances by Latrobe City secondary school students of studio art, visual communication design, drama or theatre studies.
Latrobe City Council’s coordinator performing arts and venues, Kathleen Roberts, said that graduates of Beyond the Classroom, who have continued studying in an arts related field at university, have the opportunity to exhibit in the Connections program.
"By offering the Connections exhibition program these emerging artists, who often have to relocate to Melbourne to study in their preferred field, remain ‘connected’ to the Latrobe City community.
"We offer a professional space in which the students can exhibit their work and develop their exhibition preparation skills. These skills will enable them to further engage with the visual arts sector within Latrobe City and metropolitan Melbourne," Ms Roberts said.
"The arts education program is proud to have developed this initiative for the graduates of Beyond the Classroom. We have worked closely with the staff from Latrobe Regional Gallery to help emerging artists develop the skills to assist them in exhibiting their own work.
"We believe this exhibition program is a great foundation and could act as a stepping stone for further opportunities such as exhibiting in the Community Access Gallery at the Latrobe Regional Gallery and to submit work for the Dick Bishop Memorial prize.
"We have already had terrific feedback from the patrons visiting and attending shows at the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre regarding the exhibition," Ms Roberts concluded.
