Nominate now for Latrobe City’s Australia Day Awards
Nominations for 2021 Australia Day Awards now open.
Latrobe City Council is calling for the community to nominate citizens, events and services for its 2021 Australia Day Awards. Nominations across all categories close on 9 September.
Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Dan Clancey, said the awards honoured hardworking local volunteers and celebrated community.
"Latrobe City’s Australia Day Awards honour people, events and services that highlight the breadth of community spirit right here in our city. And despite the strange circumstances we find ourselves in with many community events, services, clubs and programs currently not operating, we must still take time to acknowledge the time and skills donated before and during the pandemic lockdown.
"Think about that special someone, perhaps a relative, neighbour, friend or community club member who goes that extra mile to make a difference to the lives of others. Perhaps you want to give a shout-out to the event you attended over the summer. Maybe, it’s the sporting club stalwart whose dedication to training and matches and uniforms meant your team performed better last season. Maybe it’s someone who really helped others in need, during the pandemic," Cr Clancey said.
There are a number of categories: Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event of the Year and Community Service of the Year. We want to recognise the individuals – of any age – and the groups of people who work together on activities and events, or deliver valuable services in our community.
Cr Clancey said applications for all categories close on 9 September, but are welcome at any time in the lead-up to that date.
"It may seem incongruous to think about nominations during these ongoing restrictions, but recognising the people who selflessly work to make our city a better, friendlier, more vibrant place, is as simple as completing a form," Cr Clancey said.
Forms are available online at www.latrobe.vic.gov.au/australiaday or hard copies can be requested at our service centres and libraries.
Further information about the award ceremony, usually held on Australia Day each year, will be published nearer the time.
