Back-to-back gold for Bass Coast Visitor Information CentresThe Phillip Island and Bass Coast Visitor Information Centre Network beat a strong field to win the top award in the Visitor Information Services category at the 2016 RACV Victorian Tourism Awards on Thursday, 24 November. By Portal Admin - 8th December 2016 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council also won Bronze in the Local Government Award for Tourism category, which recognises excellence in tourism planning, the provision of tourism facilities and services, marketing, event development and management, and the overall contribution made both locally and overall to Victoria’s tourism industry.
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Pamela Rothfield said winning both the Gold and Bronze awards was a fantastic achievement that recognised the consistent high level of service provided to vistiors by Council’s team of staff and volunteers.
"To be awarded Gold in the Visitor Information Services category for a second year running is an incredible achievement, and only emphasises the consistency of quality service our staff and volunteers provide," Cr Rothfield said.
"Considering this is the first time Council has entered the Local Government Award for Tourism category, to take home a Bronze award is an achievement we are all very proud of.
"I’d like to congratulate all our Tourism and Visitor Information Centre staff and volunteers, and Council staff, for the wonderful work they do and the well-deserved recognition."
The Network has also been named a finalist in the National Awards, which will be held in Darwin in February.
The Phillip Island and Bass Coast Visitor Information Centre Network provides a service to our visitors, local residents and those new to the area.
Visitors not only receive a friendly welcome, but also receive free information and booking service to local accommodation, attractions and tours.
In the last financial year, the Network had more than 215,000 visitors and answered more than 19,000 phone calls contributing $2.25 million to the local economy through accommodation bookings, ticket and merchandise sales.
With friendly locals promoting the area, visitors are encouraged to stay longer and explore more, which ultimately contributes to our local economy and influences many people to come back and visit again.
Council would also like to congratulate Phillip Island Nature Parks and Wildlife Coast Cruises for also taking home Bronze awards on the night, and Phillip Island Helicopters, BIG4 Inverloch Holiday Park and Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit for being named finalists.
