Reduce the queue at the next hard waste drop off eventLatrobe City Council’s second hard waste drop off weekend this year will take place from 8am to 5pm on Saturday 1 October and Sunday 2 October across all four transfer stations – Traralgon, Morwell, Moe and Yinnar. By Portal Admin - 16th September 2016 - Back to News Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Michael Rossiter, said that recent weekends had proved successful because community members took time to prepare their loads before arriving at the transfer stations.
"We know in the past that there have been queues, but in more recent times we’ve managed those waiting times by providing regular updates on social media which we will be doing again this time round, as well as helping the community to understand how best to load and sort a trailer, what is acceptable, not acceptable and what can be disposed of any time for free.
"Whilst there are plenty of items that can be disposed of over these special weekends at no charge, there are still some items that attract a fee and there are some items that can never be accepted at our transfer stations. If you have recyclables or e-waste you can visit the transfer station at any time and dispose of these items for free.
"It’s worth remembering that the attendants can process your load much quicker if it’s sorted correctly and if you only take items that are acceptable. And of course, the most important thing is to be patient. The capacity at transfer stations is limited for safety reasons," Cr Rossiter said.
"There are four transfer stations across Latrobe City - in Traralgon (Depot Road), Morwell (Tramway Road), Moe (Haunted Hills Road, Newborough) and Yinnar (Creamery Road). If you know your local station is busy, perhaps consider attending a different one, or going at another time or day.
"If you have a trailer perhaps you can help out a neighbour, friend or family member who may have difficulty in accessing these weekends. Sharing trailers also reduces queues, but remember, there is a limit of two cubic metres of waste per household.
"If you don’t have a trailer or can’t make it this weekend you can book our kerbside collection service. The next service begins Monday 5 December 2016. Bookings close on Friday 18 November 2016 and can be made at any Latrobe City Service Centre or Library. There is a small cost of $20 per collection or $10 for pensioners and health care card holders.
"We want you to enjoy your experience so if you’re not sure what is acceptable, please call us during business hours 1300 367 700 or 0418 260 466 on the weekend," Cr Rossiter concluded.
