Children Learn To Look Left And RightPrimary school and kindergarten students in Bass Coast are learning to cross the road safely with the help of Bass Coast Shire Council’s Crossing Supervisors. By Bass Coast - 28th October 2014 - Back to News Seven sessions have been held at Wonthaggi Primary School, Inverloch Pre-School and Wonthaggi Kindergarten.
Mayor, Cr Neil Rankine, said the aim of the program is to educate and prepare kindergarten children on using school crossings correctly, and the importance of using the crossings.
"It’s important for children to take the message home from the session and remind their parents on school crossing safety," Cr Rankine said.
"Key messages from the program is for children to ‘stop, look, listen and think’, and promoting that road safety is for everyone – themselves, their family and friends, and other people using the road."
Cr Rankine said it was also important for kindergarten children to learn the correct way to use the crossing before they start primary school next year.
Sessions will continue to run at kindergartens and early learning centres over the coming weeks, and will also be held in other primary schools in Term 1 of 2015.
Cr Rankine thanked Council’s School Crossing Supervisors, Judy Hughes, Glenis Anderson and Julie Petersen for running the educational sessions.
