Tyers Farmer’s Market a huge success

The centre of Tyers came alive on Saturday with the first Farmer’s Market held in Latrobe City. Member of the Tyers and District Community Association and one of the key organisers, Anne Jones, said the market was extremely successful

"A farmer’s market is about introducing shoppers to home grown, quality local produce. Those shoppers who arrived early certainly knew about quality produce and took advantage of the wide selection before them," Ms Jones said.

"There were over 25 stalls selling an array of local produce that included fresh vegetables, hazelnuts, jams and chutneys, locally produced olive oil, wines and cheeses.

"The markets will be held on the fourth Saturday of every month and the next market will feature mushrooms, stone fruit, smoked meats, berries and organic muesli," Ms Jones added

Supported by Latrobe City Council and coordinated by the Tyers and District Community Association, the farmer’s market now joins the Gippsland circuit of monthly farmers markets which include Koonwarra, Drouin and Phillip Island.

Latrobe City Deputy Mayor, Councillor Lisa Proctor said that these markets were incubators for local businesses who were able to establish a new and loyal customer base.

"The Tyers community showed strong support for the market. The community association has now established a regular attraction in the town and along with the annual Tyers Art Festival, people will find it difficult to resist a visit to Tyers," Cr Proctor said.

Enquiries about the Tyers Farmers Market should be made to Peter Arnold on 5664 0096 or 0439 364 760.
