Membership booms for the Women in Business NetworkMembership of the Latrobe City-Wellington Shire Women in Business Network is increasing, with over 200 members registered. By Latrobe Shire Council - 29th September 2004 - Back to News With increasing numbers of women entering the business and professional workforce, it is expected that the Network will attract many more members.
According to the Network coordinator, Gail Robertson, the quality and relevance of the Women in Business Network seminars and workshops are the reasons for the increasing interest.
"At a recent function, network members were empowered by active participation in a personal and professional security workshop," Ms Robertson explained.
"To maintain the momentum, there are plans to conduct a number of information seminars and workshops dealing with topics quite appropriate and useful for women in business in the near future.
"A workshop dealing with bullying and harassment in the workplace will be held Thursday 7 October at 9.30am at Century Inn. Bullying and harassment in the workplace is unfortunately commonplace. A very experienced human resources manager will be leading this workshop, explaining how the issue can be addressed," Ms Robertson said.
"In late October, a public speaking workshop will be held, which aims to help participants communicate effectively in front of audiences both large and small."
The network was originally funded by the Victorian Government StreetLife program in partnership with Latrobe City and the Wellington Shire, with a wide variety of networking workshops conducted. These provided strong links between business and professional women who exchanged information, shared ideas and developed effective working and social relationships. Further workshops, network business plan, and website enhancement will also be completed as part of the Latrobe City-Wellington Shire Women in Business Network StreetLife project.
According to Latrobe City Investment Manager, Leo Billington, new members are always invited and encouraged to join. The Network has links with other similar groups throughout Gippsland and country Victoria.
"The Network is now managed by a committee of management and their work is designed to establish a viable, proactive and sustainable network for the future. Telstra Country Wide is a strong supporter through website facilitation, which introduces business women to the network therefore increasing the membership base," Mr Billington said.
