Local Businesses Gear Up For Good Afternoon FestivalLocal businesses are taking advantage of opportunities being provided through the staging of the Good Afternoon festival at the Soundshell in Victory Park, Traralgon this coming Sunday By Latrobe City - 27th March 2007 - Back to News From food to fencing, security to singer-songwriters, Latrobe Valley operators will be providing all manner of goods and services on the day.
Latrobe City manager marketing and communications, Grantley Switzer,
said that the Good Afternoon Festival will not only offer outstanding entertainment to the large crowd expected on the day, from a number of high profile national and local performers, but the spotlight will also shine on local food and wine traders and provide opportunities for a wide array of local businesses to get involved.
"Latrobe City council’s support for the event has revolved heavily around the benefit for the local community. "Right from the outset, our intention in becoming involved in this great event has been to leverage economic and social benefit for our local region. We have worked closely with event promoters ‘Promotion in Motion’ to ensure that a diverse range of local businesses have benefited from the festival, and the result is very pleasing," Mr Switzer said.
In what will be a first for the area, Victory Park will be partially closed off for the festival with approximately 400 metres of fencing being erected by local fencing contractor LV Temporary Fencing.
Damien Williamson of LV Temporary Fencing said they will be using chain mesh fencing, similar to what is often used on construction sites. "The fencing will also be covered in a visual block-out material," Mr Williamson explained.
"The Good Afternoon festival is a great event for the Latrobe Valley. We are really pleased that that this event will be accessible to people across the region and that they won’t need to spend a lot of money travelling to Melbourne to see artists of this calibre," Mr Williamson said. "It will be great if it becomes an annual event."
Other Gippsland businesses which have played a part in the Good Afternoon festival include Coates Hire, Premier Function Centre, Corky’s Liquor, Procon Security, Mort Signs, Traralgon Printing, Stockland Traralgon, Narkoojee Winery, Tyler Wines, Kouark Winery, Bairnsdale Banquet, Dutch Poffertjes, Redback Chilli Company, Riviera Icecream and Gippsland Specialty Foods.
Promotion in Motion event promoter, Mike Edkins, said the Good Afternoon Festival has been designed to encourage community participation and promote the greater Latrobe area. "We are delighted with the contribution and assistance provided by local suppliers in helping bring the festival together," Mr Edkins said.
The Good Afternoon festival will take place on Sunday April 1, at Victory Park Traralgon. Performers include James Reyne, Diesel, Kate Ceberano, Danny McDonald, Luke Draper and Tim Woods. Gates open at 2pm, and close at 9pm. Tickets are $36 and available now through Latrobe City Box Offices or from www.goodafternoon.com.au. A limited number of tickets may be available at the gate on the day. Patrons are reminded that the festival is a strictly over 18s event.
"The Good Afternoon festival is possibly the largest event of its kind to ever take place in the region. It is evidence that our region has a diverse range of products and services to offer, and we are more than capable of staging a spectacular show of this magnitude," Mr Switzer added.
