Grow more income from your landA FREE morning session next Wednesday (May 27) will examine ways of diversifying income, regardless of the size of your land. By Susan Webster - 25th May 2009 - Back to News Latrobe City Council and Agribusiness Gippsland Inc are inviting landholders from across Gippsland to a session examining some of the options.
- The session will examine leasing your land for secondary income.
- An experienced agritourism operator will share his advice.
- A regional agribusiness leader – and diversified farm operator – will offer her insights into the short-term future for the sector.
From 10am to noon on May 27, you will get insights and share valuable lessons in smarter land management. Agribusiness Gippsland Inc (AGInc) is supporting the council's inaugural agribusiness function. AGInc chair Alex Arbuthnot said: "This is a ground-breaking forum looking at secondary income off your landholding. No matter how big, or how small; lifestyler or large landholder, this morning offers insights from people who know. "You've invested in your land, now invest two hours to leverage that landholding." The free event at Nambur Wariga Room at Latrobe City Council, 141 Commercial Road, Morwell, includes morning tea. Please register for catering.

The speakers:
- Tony Anderson from Rabobank can explain the structures that allow you to have it all. He will detail the demand for certain land types, the way contracts work, what you can expect from the deal in terms of return and responsibilities.
Tony was appointed the inaugural district manager Rabobank's Sale headquarters nearly six years ago following a career with NAB Agribusiness that spanned all of Gippsland, Forbes NSW and the Melbourne HQ. He holds an agriculture/agribusiness degree from Monash and was raised on a Denison dairy farm.
- Agritourism operator and dairy farmer Max Jelbart owns Caldermead Farm in south Gippsland. The dairy farm milks up to 400 dairy cows and offers visitors a dairying experience including a viewing area, animal nursery and a fully licensed café.
- Meg Parkinson and her husband have a free range egg farm in Fish Creek. They market their eggs throughout South Gippsland and Phillip Island. They also run a boarding kennels and cattery.
Meg has had a number of roles in the Victorian Farmers Federation - including Deputy President, Egg Group President and Chairman of Animal Welfare Committee. She is also a member of Free Range Egg and Poultry Australia Ltd, which is a certifying body. As president of this organisation she was closely involved in setting up the free range chicken meat industry. Meg is currently running for president of VFF.
