Moe Town Hall to receive grand old pianoThe Moe Town Hall will be the proud recipient of a piano donated by the Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod Committee, following delivery of their new Yamaha grand piano which will be located at the Performing Arts Centre in Traralgon. By Latrobe City Council - 20th August 2003 - Back to News Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Graeme Middlemiss, in acknowledging the gift, said that when refurbished, the piano will continue to serve the community for many years to come.
Latrobe City’s Manager – Arts, Mr Paul Holton, said that he was delighted that the old piano would be given a new home.
"There is plenty of life left in the old piano and once it is fully refurbished it will be used for concerts, recitals and theatre productions," Mr Holton said.
President of MOARTZ, John Mutsaers said that the donation was great news for the Moe Town Hall.
"As a member of the original Moe Town Hall Committee, this is good news. We had spent a lot of time looking for a piano for the hall to help with performances, concerts and recitals. This generous donation by the Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod is an exciting prospect and will ensure that the Town Hall continues to have great facilities for arts, theatre and music groups that use the venue," Mr Mutsaers said.
The Eisteddfod Committee’s new grand piano has arrived in good time for the 48th Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod which starts on 21 August 2003.
Eisteddfod Committee President, Ms Christine Medhurst, said their former piano had served them well for thirty years and was a much-loved instrument. "The Eisteddfod Committee is delighted it is now going to a good new home," Ms Medhurst said.
Ms Medhurst said the new piano would be particularly appreciated by this year’s Eisteddfod piano contestants.
"The contestants will appreciate the feel and sound of the new instrument and it will be used by accompanists who back vocal, and instrumental, contestants throughout those sections of the Eisteddfod as well," Ms Medhurst said.
"At other times of the year, the new grand will be welcomed by former local students who return for public recitals, as well as visiting pianists. The Eisteddfod Committee has always made their piano available to visiting performers who require it and we are sure that the new piano will help to maintain the standard of performance, which the public has grown accustomed to in the past," Ms Medhurst concluded.
