Victorian Seniors Festival Events In Bass CoastMore than 1,000 events across Victoria will celebrate the diverse and dynamic contributions of Victorians aged 60 plus as part of the 2007 Victorian Seniors Festival. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 21st September 2007 - Back to News This year, the Victorian Seniors Festival celebrates its 25th anniversary and the eight days of the 2007 Festival promise to be very special indeed.
Running from 7 to 14 October 2007, the state-wide Festival features theatre, cinema, touring shows, open days, exhibitions, learning opportunities, food, literary events, heritage trails, music, walks and much more.
And many events are either discounted or free – as long as participants have their Victorian Seniors Card.
Here in Bass Coast, a range of activities and events are being organised by local groups.
On Monday 8 and Friday 12 October, the U3A is offering a ‘come and try’ opportunity. All the classes are free and morning and afternoon tea will be provided. Visit for five minutes or stay all day. Classes on offer include yoga, chi-kung, theatre studies, discovering music, singing or current affairs. The classes will take place either at the Bass Coast Adult Education Centre in White Road, Wonthaggi or at the Cape Paterson Hall. For more details, please call 5674 1936.
The Wonthaggi Seniors Citizens Club at 46-50 Murray Street, Wonthaggi, is holding an open day for all seniors on Tuesday 9 October. The Club will host a free BBQ lunch commencing at 12 noon which will be followed by fun bowls or cards.
If you enjoy outdoor activity, the Corinella & District Community Centre, in partnership with Bass Coast YMCA, is hosting a seniors’ walk. The walk will start at the Community Centre in Smythe Street, Corinella at 10.00 am on Monday 8 October. A guide from the YMCA will lead the walk and there will be plenty of opportunities to stop and enjoy the scenery. Walkers of all speeds and ability are invited to come along and join in! At the end of the walk, there will be a healthy morning tea served at the Centre. For catering purposes please phone the Centre on 5678 0777 if you are able to attend.
The Wonthaggi Italian Seniors Citizens Club, located at 46-50 Murray Street, Wonthaggi is hosting an Italian style BBQ, along with bowls and card games. The BBQ is on Thursday 11 October at 12 noon. There is no cost, but please RSVP to Lena on 5672 2942 by Friday 5 October for catering purposes.

Seniors are advised to get onboard and book ahead with V/Line for free travel during the week of the Festival.
Free V/Line country rail and coach services are available from Tuesday 9 to Thursday 11 October inclusive and on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 October.
Reservations for V/Line services open on Tuesday 4 September at 10am. Tickets can be booked at your closest staffed V/Line station or V/Line ticket agent, Connex Premium station or by calling 13 6196.
Selected local regional bus services are free throughout the Festival from Sunday 7 to Sunday 14 October.
