RACV Great Vic Bike Ride to meet local communitiesBicycle Network is coming to town next week to meet with locals and discuss how community groups, businesses and tourism operators can get involved in the upcoming RACV Great Victorian Bike Ride. By Portal Admin - 26th July 2017 - Back to News More than 3,000 bike riders will descend on Gippsland from 25 November to 3 December as the biggest multi-day bike ride in the Southern Hemisphere travels from Wilsons Promontory to Trafalgar. Meetings will be held at Maffra, Bairnsdale, Seaspray, Yarram and Glengarry from Wednesday next week.
Bicycle Network General Manager of Events, Rebecca Lane, said that the meetings will give locals the chance to see how they can get involved with fundraising, welcome riders and make their town a memorable one for visitors.
"This year’s RACV Great Vic will visit some of the most beautiful areas in Victoria. We would love for local communities to help us uncover some hidden gems for riders and show them the best Gippsland has to offer," said Ms Lane.
"Whether you run the golf or tennis club, operate a museum, gallery or theatre or have some local produce to showcase to riders we would love you to come along to a community meeting."
"The event is a great opportunity for community groups like schools, sporting clubs and businesses. Each rider spends an average of $35 a day on the RACV Great Vic, injecting more than $100,000 each day into the region. They also tell us that they are most likely to come back to towns again after first visiting on the ride."
Planning information including details of campsite locations and changes to traffic conditions will also be discussed at the meetings.
"We want to make sure our visit to Gippsland is as smooth as possible and that local communities understand how the event will run," added Ms Lane.
The floor will be open at the meetings for locals to discuss the ride and see how they can be a part of the festivities.
After starting at Wilsons Prom, the ride travels through Foster, Yarram, Seaspray, Bairnsdale, Maffra and Glengarry before finishing at Trafalgar. Riders will pause for a rest day at Bairnsdale.
