‘2007 Power Of Racing Carnival’ Launched The Latrobe City ‘2007 Power of Racing Carnival’ was launched last night, with local racing clubs, media and event organisers coming together in the Nambur Wariga Room at council’s corporate By Latrobe City - 21st September 2007 - Back to News headquarters, to celebrate the arrival of the spring events.
Now into its fifth year, the two-month event carnival has become an annual highlight of the Latrobe City events calendar.
Launching the 2007 Power of Racing Carnival, Latrobe City councillor, Cr Darrell White, said the spring program brings together a diverse range of events including cultural celebrations, sporting competitions and of course iconic racing events.
"Spring is one of the most enjoyable times of the year for our community, and Latrobe City is blessed with a wide range of high quality events that occur within our region during this period. The 2007 Power of Racing Carnival provides an exciting array of entertaining events, creates valuable networking opportunities for event organisers and the public at large, and highlights the level of diversity in our community," Cr White said.
Racing events included in this year’s program include Gippsland’s premier race day - the Moe GPG Cup; the East Coast Plumbtec Latrobe Valley Cup Day at Glenview Park Traralgon; and the Dual Code Day. "Numerous other sporting events are included in this year’s exciting program including the State Open Waters Championships and Masters Open at Hazelwood Pondage, and the Great Victorian Bike Ride overnight stop at Yinnar," Cr White said.
"Additionally there is a plethora of community enhancing events including the 7th Annual Oktoberfest; the Moe Three-Hour Sale; Japanese Day; the 28th Tyers Arts Festival; the Gemstones, Jewellery and Collectables Expo; and the 119th Traralgon Agricultural Show. This is going to be a very exciting season," Cr White said.
Cr White said that the initiative also creates additional media and promotional exposure for local events. "The Power of Racing is an additional avenue for local event organisers to participate in a large centralised marketing campaign. As well as raising the profile of local racing in general, the carnival provides significant advertising benefits, media exposure and marketing strength for individual events occurring from October until December," Cr White explained.
"The carnival creates valuable partnerships, cross promotional and networking opportunities for local event organisers, council and the media."
Cr White said a significant component of the program could not operate without the enormous support given by volunteers. "We owe a great debt of gratitude to all those who volunteer their services to make these events collectively and individually so successful.
"These events welcome and bring visitors from afar, who while experiencing the event program often discover the wealth of other tourism attractions available in our region, such as the Latrobe Regional Gallery," Cr White added.
A full program of events for the Power of Racing Carnival is available now at www.latrobe.vic.gov.au/powerofracing. Brochures with the full program of events will be available from Latrobe City service centres from Monday 1 October.
