Latrobe City To Host Melbourne TigersLatrobe City will host the Melbourne Tigers’ NBL preseason match on Friday 10 September 2010 at the Latrobe Leisure Traralgon Sports Stadium. By Latrobe City Shire - 10th September 2010 - Back to News The preseason match will pit Victoria’s only representative in the National Basketball League against last season’s finalists; the Wollongong Hawks.
Latrobe City’s mayor, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan, said that it was great to see more major sporting events choosing Latrobe City.
"It is fantastic for local sports, and the local economy, that Latrobe City keeps attracting these events. In 2010 alone, Latrobe City has hosted preseason matches for the AFL and the A-League; which were both major successes.
"Latrobe City has developed a strong reputation for hosting events, which will help the municipality’s growth into the future," Cr O’Callaghan said.
Latrobe City’s Recreational and Cultural Liveability general manager, Grantley Switzer, said that the Tigers would be eager to impress their home crowd.
"The Traralgon match will be the Tigers’ first game on home soil since the end of last season, as the team has only recently returned from a successful tour of both Ireland and China. It is the perfect chance for Latrobe City residents to support their local team.
"The Tigers are sure to be fired up and eager to atone for last season, after missing the finals, and there is no better way to make a statement than to defeat last year’s runner-up.
"The squad has been stocked up with seven new signings; all of them showed off their talents in the overseas matches. Everybody should come along and support the Tigers as they stake their claim to be this season’s premiers," Mr Switzer concluded.
Tip off will be at 7pm and tickets are available from the Latrobe City Box Office on 5176 3559. Pre-sale ticket prices are $12 for adults, $7 for children under 12, and family tickets, including 2 adults and 3 children, are $30. Sales at the door are $15 for adults, $9 for children under 12, and $35 for a family of 2 adults and 3 children.
