South Gippsland Shire Council January 2023 community projects and programs updates
Mayor of South Gippsland Shire, Cr Nathan Hersey congratulates the winners of the 2023 Australian Day Awards.and updates from the council's programs and projects.
Congratulations to the winners and nominees in the 2023 South Gippsland Australia Day Awards who were celebrated and acknowledged at an awards ceremony in Meeniyan last week. Here are the winners:
- Young Citizen of the Year: Kira Waldron
- Citizen of the Year: Max Wood
- Community Event of the Year: Fish Creek Tea Cosy Festival

New opening hours
Reception hours are now 10.00am to 3.00pm, Monday to Thursday. Closed on Fridays. This is in preparation for a new customer service counter that will be opening in Korumburra soon. This means there will soon be two Customer Service counters available in South Gippsland where our friendly team can assist you with council information, payments and applications.
Additionally, we will soon be introducing online appointment bookings for our Planning, Rates, Building and Environmental Health Teams as well as new ways to pay for applications online via council's website. 'THREADS' EOI
Coal Creek Community Park and Museum will be holding an exhibition in March and April 2023 titled THREADS. South Gippsland Shire Council is seeking applications from local artists and crafters for a new exhibition that will have the theme 'Women in Textiles' and feature works made from textiles and/or fibre materials. The exhibition will launch on International Women's on Thursday 9 March.
Artists and crafters - of all genders - are invited to submit an expression of interest to be included in the exhibition by Monday 13 February. Preference will be given to South Gippsland based artists. Rebuilding regional communities
Russell Broadbent announced three South Gippsland organisations that have received funding under the Rebuilding Regional Communities program. (It's no) Drama LTD will receive $10,000 to create an accessible community art project in Leongatha.
Manna Community Garden will use their grant of $2,600 to facilitate a luncheon and new outdoor seating for community events in Foster and Prom Coast Seachange Festival Committee, also based in Foster, will receive $10,000 to support the return of the Prom Coast Festival. Congratulations to all the successful recipients.
Community grants
Need a hand with your Community Grants application or just want some advice on how to make it stand out? There are still a few drop-in Community Grant sessions left. The drop-ins are a great way to learn more about the program and how you can get involved.
Sessions will be held:
- Monday 6 February - Milpara House, Korumburra
- Wednesday 8 February - Poowong Uniting Church
- Monday 20 February - Toora Hall
- Wednesday 22 February - Manna Gum Community House, Foster

South Gippsland Coastal Strategy
Our coast is a beautiful natural asset - highly valued by our local community and the many visitors it attracts. However, it is facing a range of pressures and it's clear we need to take proactive steps to prepare our coastal communities for the future.

Online bookings will close 24 hours before the immunisation is due to commence
Immunisation sessions
South Gippsland Shire Council is offering immunisation sessions for the administration of all funded National Immunisation Program (NIP) vaccines. Sessions are free to attend and are run by accredited nurse immunisers with medical support. Sessions are held monthly, with February's sessions now open for booking.
